TEHRAN -- The latest developments and policies for purchasing planes for the aviation fleet have been recently reviewed by the Majlis Development Commission, the minister of roads and transportation, and the director of the Roads Department of the Management and Planning Organization (MPO).

The commission has several times reviewed various parts of the aviation fleet. The focus of the commission has been on the issue of plane crash. The former roads and transportation minister and seven Majlis deputies lost their lives in a plane crash last May. Another crash claimed the lives of all of its 120 passengers and crewmembers.

The minister of roads and transportation announced last year that a comprehensive plan for transportation is under study by the ministry which would lead to improvement in the country's aviation fleet.

But delays in the presentation of the plan made the Majlis commission review this issue once again.

The Deputy Chairman of the Development Commission in Majlis Mohammad Saqaee said that the commission is still waiting for the completion of the plan in order to define a proper strategy for the air transportation.

He added that issues such as spare parts for planes, the plan to equip the airports and the type of planes have been discussed.

He underlined that once a decision is made on the type of planes, the Ministry of Roads and Transportation would start the necessary negotiations to purchase them.

The deputy chairman pointed out that some negotiations have already been held with Air Bus and Tupolev companies, which will be finalized once the plan is completed. The evaluation of the plan may complete within two months, he said, adding, once the comprehensive plan is reached, the development of a number of airports will commence and the flights in others may be decreased.
