SCIRI Opposed to U.S. Attack on Iraq

TEHRAN -- The leader of the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution of Iraq (SCIRI) has announced that the United States should not use force to overthrow Iraqi President Saddam Hussein but should use UN resolutions.

Mohammad-Baqer Hakim expressed his concern that a sudden attack by the United States could lead to the occupation of Iraq. Hakim's remarks indicate a great change in the SCIRI position since it had previously welcomed U.S. plans to overthrow Saddam.
