TEHRAN -- A sociologist asked what should be done to decrease the negative consequences of Iranian young people's obsession with fashion.

Some youth from Golestan expressed their concerns on this issue. They said that this problem has always existed, but in a different manner according to the various attitudes of the time.

Nelia Safaei said that the best solution for difficulties is obsession with fashion and it is not limited to clothes, but also extends to accents and the use of slang as well as the way of walking.

In the West, people follow fashion wisely according to their beliefs, but today Iranian youth accept every fashion trend thoughtlessly, Western ones especially, Arsalan Pouria noted.

This is blind imitation which inevitably will have a long-term impact if we do not pay attention to them, Pouria added.

The best way to deal with the obsession with fashion is to pay more attention to the youth and their needs and to make sure that the new fashions are in harmony with our religious beliefs, Maryam Razavi declared. Hojjatoleslam Abdollah Shahini said, "We cannot escape from globalization. Regarding our customs and our religious duties, we can follow fashion in an informed way."
