Family, Fundamental Unit of a Healthy Society

October 27, 2002 - 0:0
The majority of sociologists view the important role of "family" as the basic underlying unit of a healthy community. Under the existing social conditions, one can not ignore the fact that the sacred foundation of family is threatened. This is a serious warning for the officials who have to find reasonable solutions to existing problems.

Even if we look optimistically at the statistical data, the harsh social facts raise their ugly heads. According to the head of Prisons Organization, we have had a 17% rise in the number of prisoners during the first four months of this year. Meanwhile, from the 171,000 prisoners in the country, a worrisome figure of 102,000 is detained due to drug-related crimes. These figures reveal that illicit drugs, in addition to their destructive personal impact, have numerous other negative side effects, which need to be studied.

One of the issues that the majority of criminologists emphasize is the important issue of self-control. With due regard to the very complex nature of mankind, one can not point to a specific method of self-control, but one cannot overemphasize the role of the family as the foundation of a healthy society. The fundamental characteristics of a person are rooted in the childhood -- which take shape in the family atmosphere.

In fact, in the past, we have not really witnessed decision-making processes that are proportional to the sensitive foundation of family, which in turn, has led to a rise in crime.

Those of us in our sixties might only remember the serial murders of "Asgar the Killer", but today, if we want to recall some horrific mass or serial murders, we can recall several names from the past decade alone. These changes in the nature of crimes being committed must be the subject of comprehensive studies by sociologists.

Undoubtedly, acute social phenomena are results of numerous factors that must be studied and analyzed carefully and in-depth. However, in spite of all these factors, the family foundation must be emphasized because it is the one and only major determining factor in the realization of a healthy society.
