TEHRAN -- Presidential advisor Ali Rabiei said here on Friday that Iran and Egypt should normalize ties soon so as to help promote unity among Muslim nations.

Rabiei, speaking on the sidelines of the Friday rallies to mark the international day of solidarity with Palestinians, highlighted the need for Tehran and Cairo to normalize ties stressing that this would serve the long-term interests of the Islamic world.

He described policies that reject the improvement of relations between the two countries as "short-sighted", and stressed that decreasing tension among Muslim nations in any field would in turn increase their chances for joint success at international scenes. Rabiei said the Islamic world has the potential to become a world power provided that Islamic countries would seek to remove "psychological barriers."

He said Iran has a key role in removing psychological barriers among Muslim nations, stressing that Tehran should harmonize its values and those of the other Muslim nations so as to reinforce a coalition of Islamic countries, IRNA reported.
