BANJA LUKA, Bosnia-Hercegovina -- The Parliament of Republika Srpska, the Serb entity created in Bosnia under the Dayton peace agreement, on Friday approved a new government, with the party of the hunted war crimes fugitive Radovan Karadzic getting four of the 16 cabinet seats.

As called for under the provisions setting up the entity, the new government for the first time has seats for each of the three ethnic communities: Eight Serbs, five Muslims and three Bosnian Croats.

The new prime minister is 47-year-old Dragan Mikerevic, a member of the Democratic Progress Party, considered to be moderate and reformist, AFP reported.

The Serb Democratic Party of Karadzic, which resoundingly won elections on October 5 last year to gain 26 of the 83 seats in the Parliament, was given four seats while Mikerevic's party got five and the mainly Muslim Democratic Action Party gets three.

The other members of the cabinet are apparently independents.

Republika Srpska is one of the two entities set up in Bosnia under the Dayton accords, which ended the country's bloody war in 1995. The other is the Muslim-Croat Federation.

Karadzic, who led the Bosnian Serbs throughout the war that pitted them against both Muslims and Croats in the 1990's, is wanted by the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague. He is believed to be hiding out somewhere in Republika Srpska.
