A deputy representing Torbat-e Heydarieh, Abolqassem Abedinpour, on Monday highlighted the need to amend local council election laws, saying that the current laws do not satisfy the needs of the people.

Speaking at a meeting with the people of Torbat-e Heydarieh, Abedinpour said amending local council election laws should be given priority over other Majlis bills in light of prevailing conditions.

He added that the people and the system would benefit if certain tasks of the Majlis were assigned to the local councils.

He said many of the elite figures of the Revolution that had had no chance to take up management duties have already proven successful in the council system and stressed that it was not appropriate to limit these individuals through incomplete laws.
