NEW YORK -- Mexican Foreign Affairs Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez on Friday called for finding an effective solution to the Iraqi crisis.

During a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Mexico City Mohammad Rouhi-Sefat, Derbez expressed hope that his country, as the current president of the UN Security Council, and other members of the council will consult and reach a constructive solution to the crisis.

The minister also added that humanitarian relief assistance would be considered as the most important measure under present conditions, IRNA said.

The two sides also stressed expansion of bilateral economic relations as well as further exchanges of trade and economic delegations.

Mexico assumed rotating chairmanship of the UN Security Council on April 1.
