Kharrazi Defends Performance of Foreign Ministry
Kharrazi was summoned to the parliament on Sunday to give answers about the Foreign Ministry's performance.
The MP’s question was regarding the failure of the Foreign Ministry to restructure the portfolio to meet the needs of the country’s foreign policy.
“Foreign Ministry is not currently competent enough to face the threats posed against the country,” she said adding, we need an efficient system for our diplomacy.
“Contrary to the perception of Mrs. Koulai, the Foreign Ministry through a modern management system is moving toward effective decision-making and up to date information dissemination,” the minister said.
The restructuring plan of Foreign Ministry has been under study by experts and university professors , he said adding soon we will witness major changes in this respect.
In line with our policy to reduce the size of the ministry we have taken valuable measures to lay off inexpert personnel, he said.
No other organization except foreign ministry has had a 21 percent lay off, kharrazi added.
Foreign missions are now based on meritocracy, he said adding, today the Foreign Ministry has a pool of experts in international relations.
The remarks of Mrs. Koulai stem from her lack of proper information, Kharrazi said.
However, the MP said that the explanations of the country’s top diplomat were not satisfactory and the case was sent to the National Security and Foreign Relations Committee for further studies.
