TEHRAN -- The Intelligence Minister Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei said here Monday that Iran has found some evidence that shows the enemies have hatched plots to create insecurity in the country.

“Undoubtedly, the enemy is struggling to create and support insecurity in the country,” he told reporters after a meeting with the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, during which shantytowns were discussed. Asked whether the government has found any proof, he said, “If we had not, I would not have talked about it so confidently.”

Kerman Province’s Deputy Governor General for Political and Security Affairs, Abolqassem Nasrollahi, for his part, revealed a fresh crackdown on bandits started Monday in the southeastern region of Darzin, between the cities of Kerman and Bam.

He expressed hope the bandits would be mopped up in the region over the next few days.

Terrorists disguised in police uniforms murdered 12 people cold-bloodedly on May 13 in Darzin.

“We have managed to take all the criminals under control by starting a fresh clampdown and the Eqtedar (might) operation in the region,” he noted.

The Iranian nation would soon hear some good news about the total eradication of banditry in the country, vowed the official.

National Police Commander Brigadier General Esmaeil Ahmadi Moqaddam told reporters Monday the police are seriously engaged in operations to track down the bandits in the eastern border regions. Asked which of the two forces, namely the police or the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), are responsible for maintaining security in the eastern border regions, Ahmadi Moqaddam said, “The police hold the responsibility while the IRGC is commissioned to maintain security there.”
