Tricks for teaching my child how to tie her shoes?

Q: My daughter is 5 and desperately wants to tie her shoes by herself. We have been working on it for a couple of months but we are both getting frustrated. I am right-handed and she is left, which I think is part of the problem. A: I am having the same problem with my leftie. I looked up on the computer and it says the best way is not sit next to her but across from each other. Lefties see in mirror, so if they see you (across from her) they get the concept better. We also tried first, without the actual shoes, we had both daughters learn from tying on something big with big laces. We have a heating pad with big laces (to tie around your leg or whatever) once they get the hang of the motion then we move to the shoes. And they both learned before starting school. We told them that if they don't learn how to they can't go to school. And it worked. Good luck!!! (Source: Yahoo.com)
