TEHRAN -- Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel here on Tuesday called on local councils to avoid political conflicts and said people expect the councils to avoid factionalism.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Tehran City Council, he said local councils are one of the most noticeable manifestations of democracy in the country.

Majlis speaker added although the Tehran councilors may have different political tendencies, they will succeed if they work together and it will be a “win-win game”. However, he said they will certainly lose if they quarrel with one another and it will be “lose-lose game” which will eventually affect the people.

He added the councilors should act in a way that people do not lose their motivation for the next elections.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Haddad-Adel praised massive turnout in the local council elections last year and said such political activities will promote the country’s international standing.
