PRAGUE (Xinhua) -- Czech President Vaclav Klaus signed an amendment to the penal law that enables the police to use special agents to help uncover corruption, the Czech news agency CTK said on Monday.

So far the police can use agents only in the investigation into the most serious crimes on the basis of an international agreement, CTK said.
The new legislation allows for such an agent's operation during the investigation into bribery suspicion as well, it added.
However, the law will stipulates that police agents will only collect information and evidence in the corruption environment.
""The anti-corruption agent is to infiltrate the environment where a corruption suspicion emerges, map it, uncover crimes and gather evidence under cover,"" Interior Minister Ivan Langer said previously.
The anti-corruption agents will be used under strict rules. Only an attorney from the High State Attorney's Office can apply for this method to be used and a High Court judge must approve it for clearly specified reasons and time.
It must also be specified how the agent can be identified, the report said.
