TEHRAN -- An exhibit of sculptures entitled “Shams and Bird” created by the Iranian artist Qodratollah Aqeli was opened at Momayyez Gallery of Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) on Monday.

“I began work on project two years ago by focusing on Rumi’s Shams and Masnavi,” Aqeli told IRNA.
In both works, Rumi mentioned birds as both heavenly and mundane beings. The bird is a metaphor for the human being in his poem, he added.
He said that he was inspired by Rumi’s poetry and focused on its meaning in making the sculptures. In addition, the bird’s shape and its movements have the capacity for shaping sculpture.
“I try to make manifest the mystical notions of Iranian and Islamic art that are abundant in Rumi’s poetry,” he added.
Born in 1968 in Jolfa, Aqeli began his career from 1981.
He has held twenty individual exhibits in Iran and also participated in 47 exhibitions, biennials and expos in other countries including Britain, Morocco, Ukrine, Germany, Franc and Qatar.
The IAF is located on Musavi St, north of Taleqani Ave.
