TEHRAN – Currently, Iran’s strategic gasoline reserves is about 1.4 billion liters which shows a 250 million-liter increase in comparison to the corresponding time last year (August 2008), the Mehr News Agency has learned.

The report came as the U.S. and a few of its European allies are mulling an energy sanctions against Iran for its nuclear program which is solely intended for producing electricity to meet growing demand.
On Thursday, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad shrugged off the impact of any sanctions targeting Iran's gasoline imports and suggested it would soon be able to meet its own needs.
""In the course of the next one or two years the Star refinery will be commissioned in (the Iranian port of) Bandar Abbas and we will ourselves be a producer of gasoline,"" the president explained.
The average daily gasoline consumption in Iran has remained at about 67 billion liters since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year which started March 21 and the local refineries have on average produced 44 to 45 million liters of gasoline per day over the last five months.
In order to meet the country’s demand in this time period Iran must have imported over 20 million liters a day.
In the current fiscal year the Majlis refused to approve any budget to subsidize the imported gasoline and the Oil Ministry is trading trade crude oil with gasoline
