TEHRAN – Iran’s First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri has said that unity and integrity is essential in Iraq to foil plots hatched by the enemies.

“At this juncture, one of the important problems in Iraq is security issues especially the Daesh[ISIL] terrorist group so maintaining Iraq’s territorial integrity and national unity is very important,” he said in a meeting with Iraqi Vice President Nouri al-Maliki in Tehran on Sunday.

Jahangiri also expressed hope that the Iraqi government and people will resolve the problems and will pass the current difficult situation successfully.

He called on the Iraqi officials to adopt a “serious” position in the wake of claims made about dividing Iraq.

U.S. Army’s outgoing chief of staff said last week that dividing up Iraq is the only solution to settle crisis in the country.

Jahangiri said that Iran will stand beside the Iraqi government and people.

Pointing to the developments in Syria, he attached great importance to expansion of relations between Tehran and Baghdad in order to solve problems in Syria.

Elsewhere, he said that Iran is ready to transfer its advancements in technology and in oil and gas industries to Iraq.

The Iraqi official called on the Iranian corporations to invest in Iraq.

Maliki also said that some Western countries seek to disintegrate Iraq instead of fighting the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant.

He also praised the Islamic Republic’s supports for the Iraqi government and people.
