IAEA report was ambiguous, grey: Araqchi

TEHRAN - The Iranian deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs has said that the International Atomic Energy Agency’s recent report on Iran’s nuclear activities is “ambiguous and grey”.

The Foreign Ministry has therefore prepared an expert report which will be published after a UN Security Council resolution to be registered in the UN documents, Araqchi had said in the meeting.

In its latest report about two weeks ago, the UN nuclear monitoring body said it has found no indications of the diversion of nuclear material for non-civilian objectives in Iran's nuclear program.

The report also alleged that activities related to the development of a nuclear explosive device in Iran's nuclear program “did not advance beyond feasibility and scientific studies, and the acquisition of certain relevant technical competences and capabilities.”

The IAEA’s Board of Governors is set to hold a meeting on December 15 to make a final decision on Iran’s nuclear case. Tehran says it will implement a nuclear agreement signed with six world powers in July once the file is completely closed.

Tehran is hopeful that the report will pave the ground for the closure of the so-called Possible Military Dimensions (PMD) case claimed by Western powers.

Abbas Araqchi made the remarks while attending the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee on Monday, Nozar Shafiee, who is member to the committee said after the meeting.

According to the MP, Araqchi also said Iran and China have signed a memorandum of understanding for the restructuring of the Arak heavy water nuclear reactor.

Araqchi further said the implementation day of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) will fall in the Iranian-calendar month of Dey (December 22 to January 20), Shafiee stated.
