TEHRAN – Ground troops of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps practiced repelling asymmetric threats made by the mock enemy during the main stage of the Valfajr land military exercises, IRGC Ground Forces Commander Mohammad Pakpour announced on Monday. 

 

The two-day Valfajr war games were staged in the central province of Yazd on Sunday and Monday. IRGC infantry units and battalions of Basiji forces took part in the maneuvers.  

 

Pakpour had previously said that the purpose of the war games was to display IRGC forces’ capabilities to repel possible military threats by extra-regional enemies against the country.  

 

He also said that other purposes of the maneuvers are to increase the country’s deterrence capability, practice modern defensive tactics, and test advanced indigenous military equipment. 

 

The maneuvers were the third round of IRGC’s land exercises in the current Iranian calendar year, which started on March 21, 2011.
