TEHRAN – Isfahan Municipality honored a number of Iranian cineastes with lifetime achievements awards on Tuesday on the side section of the Ruhollah Short Film Festival, a festival of short films on Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic.

Filmmakers Ahmadreza Darvish, Ebrahim Hatamikia, Abolfazl Jalili and secretary of the festival Mohammad Afarideh were the recipients of the awards designed by master of miniature Mahmud Farshchian.

Darvish, who was on stage to receive his award, expressed hope that the Ruhollah festival will help boost cinematic works, the Persian service of ISNA reported on Wednesday.

Pointing to Isfahan as the host of the event, he emphasized the establishment of more theaters across the city.

“Isfahan is a city known as the cradle of art, culture and civilizations, and it also must be the symbol of the national cinema. With the cultural and historical background of Isfahan, the city must possess the best and the most facilities,” Darvish added.

The director of IRIB Documentary Channel Amir Tajik, also attending the program, called the festival a good event where all films produced on Imam Khomeini have been collected, some of which are being kept in the archive of the channel.

He asked the Isfahan Municipality to support the filmmakers in making documentaries about Isfahan.

Isfahan hosted the festival from May 23 to 25.
