ATHENS Iranian diplomatic sources have told Egyptian paper al-Ahram weekly that Iran is increasingly concerned over the fate of al-Qods (Jerusalem) and al-Aqsa Mosque.
Tehran is calling for a meeting of Arab Islamic countries under the banner of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) to discuss ways of preventing Israel's permanent appropriation of al-Qods, the English-language weekly reported in its latest edition.
Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi discussed the issue by phone, last week, with his Egyptian counterpart Amr Moussa.
Moussa promised that Egypt would consider the proposal. Syria and Saudi Arabia have both expressed support for the possible initiative.
However, Morocco, chair of the al-Qods committee, has been the least enthusiastic, said al-Ahram.
