TOKYO Japanese companies still depend on their main banks for funding, according to a report by the Ministry of Finance's Policy Research Institute.
The institute's survey on corporate governance, which was conducted last November, shows 13% of the companies responding intended to strengthen their relationship with their main bank, while 64% said they would maintain the relationship at its present level.
The survey also showed that the smaller the company, the more it relied on its main bank.
