Over 100 religious scholars back Leader of the Islamic Revolution following the recent unrest

TEHRAN – More than 100 religious scholars from the Islamic world have issued a statement backing Leader of the Islamic Revolution in the face of the recent unrest in Iran backed by the United States and the Israeli regime.

The statement followed after the peaceful civil protests that started in Tehran’s Great Bazaar on December 28, 2025, over market instability and the depreciation of the national currency. However, the protests spread to certain other cities and gradually turned violent, especially on January 8-10, 2026.

Amid these protests, the U.S. President Donald Trump wrote a series of posts on his Truth Social provoking rioters to resorts to violent acts.

In one of his posts, he openly threatened military attack on Iran, saying, “We are locked and loaded and ready to go” if Iran counters the rioters.

The rioters killed security forces, damaged public and private property, burned mosques, and other acts of sabotage.

The religious scholars stated that, according to Islamic Sharia, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Donald Trump exemplify clear instances of “Moharebeh” (waging war against God) and “corruption on the earth” (actions that disrupt social order, spread injustice, or cause harm to society, religion, or morality), as they have instilled fear among the public, threatened national security, provoked the killing of civilians, and promoted war and instability.

The scholars stated that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is the leader of the dignified Islamic front and the legitimate authority in accordance with the Islamic Republic system, defending the Islamic world and the dignity of nations with wisdom, courage, and foresight.

They added that threats against him, from the perspective of political Islamic fiqh, constitute an insult to the legitimate Velayat (rule of supreme jurisprudence) and a declaration of hostility toward the dignity of the Islamic front.
