Export diversification key to economic independence, trade official says
TEHRAN – Export diversification is essential to achieving economic independence and strengthening economic resilience, a senior official at Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) said.
Seyed Ali Emami, director general of logistics and support at the TPO, said reducing reliance on foreign countries and improving livelihoods were among the core objectives of the Islamic Republic, adding that diversifying export goods and markets was a central tool to achieve those goals.
Emami said Iran’s exports had grown in both value and volume in recent years, but diversification by product and destination remained below desired levels and required more targeted planning.
He said the TPO had taken effective steps over the past year in logistics and trade support, including signing memoranda of understanding with free trade zones aimed at turning them into export hubs.
Emami said the organization had also pursued the removal of restrictions at road and maritime border crossings, while technical and standards-related export barriers for many goods had been addressed through coordination with relevant bodies, including the Health Ministry, the Veterinary Organization, quarantine authorities and the national standards body.
He added that around 400 contracts related to consumer rights protection and after-sales service guarantees had been reviewed over the past year, contributing to better regulation of imports and improved service quality.
