TEHRAN At least seven donkeys have been stolen in recent weeks in villages around the town of Boumehen, Tehran Province.

The villagers have complained that for some time their donkeys, which are mostly used for carrying burdens, are suspiciously missing.

According to official reports, the stolen donkeys are probably killed for being sold as edible meat. Concerned officials are prosecuting this illegal act.

People are advised by officials to purchase meat from reliable shops.
