Leading Cleric Warns Against Hiding Personal Intentions Behind Attractive Rhetoric

TEHRAN Substitute leader of Tehran's Friday congregational prayers Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani here warned against those who misuse political terminology for personal political aims.

Addressing thousands of worshipers at Tehran University campus, Ayatollah Emami Kashani said freedom is one such word which is misused by certain people.

The word was introduced by the prophets but misusing it can repeat the same misfortunes which were afflicted upon the country in the past,'' said Ayatollah Emami Kashani.

Stressing the role of the youth at universities and seminaries, Ayatollah Emami Kashani said the new generation shoulders the heavy duty of safeguarding the revolution.

He said the youth have inherited the revolution and should preserve the rich culture of it which is independence, freedom and dignity and national self-esteem.

Elsewhere in his second sermon, Ayatollah Kashani pointed to the martyrdom of Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Haji Soltani and said the terrorists who assassinated him intended to disrupt the unity of Islamic ummah and the friendly relations between Iran and Pakistan.

Haji Soltani, an Iranian Shi'ite cleric was shot dead in Karachi on January 20. He was sixty at the day of his assassination and had lived in Pakistan for thirty three years.
