Lively Elections Ahead as 161 More Hopefuls Register

TEHRAN There are signs of lively elections ahead, as 161 more candidates registered for the June 8 presidential elections. Thus, the number of presidential hopefuls who have so far registered currently stands at 354.

The Guardian Council is tasked to screen all the candidates and announce a final list of those qualified to run for the presidency in the eighth presidential elections in the post-revolution Iran.

Among the famous candidates who registered on Saturday were former MP Seyed Mahmoud Kashani, Head of Physical Education Organization Mostafa Hashemi-Taba, and former MP Hassan Ghafouri-Fard.

Furthermore, former information minister Ali Fallahian, Azad University Chancellor Abdollah Jasbi, economic expert and former minister Ahmad Tavakkoli, Kermanshah MP Esmaeil Tatari, former MP Saeid Rajaei-Khorasani, Mohammad-Mohsen Sazgara and three female candidates Farah Khosravi, Aqdas Modarres and Touran Jamili are among the presidential hopefuls.
