PARIS One of Paris's biggest tourist attractions -- the Grevin Waxworks -- reopened on Tuesday after six months of renovations, boasting a new look and 80 additional faces.

The century-old gallery, which was bought two years ago by the owners of the Asterix Theme-Park outside the French capital, has been remodelled at a cost of eight million euros, and is no longer called a "museum".

"The new format plunges the visitor into the action. It is no longer a museum, it is a place of cultural entertainment," said Groupe Asterix Chairman Olivier de Bosredon.

According to AFP, among the new creations are actors Sean Connery, Jean Reno and Julia Roberts, and the 10th century monarch Hugh Capet.

Set pieces include the fall of the Berlin Wall, the first landing on the moon, a schoolroom in Nazi-occupied France, a parade and the bathtub murder of the revolutionary leader Marat.

The Grevin was visited by some 600,000 people in 2000. Ticket prices have been increased to bring the gallery into line with similar venues in London and New York, the management said.
