SARI -- Four quakes, measuring 5, 3.3, 2.7, 2.8 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale hit the city of Amol in the northern Iranian province of Mazandaran in succession Monday night and early Tuesday.

The provincial Seismological Base registered the tremors between 23:00 hours (1900 GMT) and 3:51 hours local time (2321 GMT) with their epicenter southeast of Amol.

No report has yet been received on possible casualties or damage inflicted by the temblors.
