QOM -- The managing director of the provincial agricultural jihad organization's rural carpet union said on Tuesday that some 95 percent of Qom's handwoven carpets are exported.
Majid Akhavan, said that the carpets are mostly sold to Germany, Italy, Lebanon, Greece and the Persian Gulf littoral states.
"Over 15,000 square meters of silk and wool carpets are produced per annum in the province," he added.
Akhavan said his union has provided numerous jobs, sold raw materials by installment to weavers, provided capital for investment for a year's production of carpets and organized various plans and schemes for their benefit.
The union was established in 1997 with the aim of upgrading carpet quality and developing the weaving industry, he said.
