RIYADH -- Esteqlal of Tehran representing the country in the Saudi Arabia's international soccer tournament, Friendship Cup, defeated the home side Asir 3-1 Saturday.

Esteqlal netted three times in the 34th, 43rd, and 80th minutes to be the leader of 'Group A'. Asir's consolation goal came in the 91th minute from the penalty spot.

Due to difference goal, the Iranian team topped the table followed by Syria, Al Ahly, Asir, and Oman under-23 side, IRNA reported.

Esteqlal national midfielder Sirous Dinmohammadi was announced 'Man of the Match' and received a special prize.

Iran's representative fields its players Monday against the Omani team.
