    What we eat determines our health and future

    In recent decades, our diets and eating habits have dramatically changed, moving from seasonal, mainly plant-based and fibre-rich dishes to high calorie diets and processed foods, loaded with sugar, fat and salt. These days also in Iran, less time is spent to prepare meals at home, and consumers rely on fast food outlets and home delivery of processed foods.

    The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) jointly celebrated the first World Food Safety Day in Iran to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks, contributing to food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, and sustainable development.

    TEHRAN— Iran, as one of the leading countries in honey industry, has a long-established tradition on bee keeping and during recent years could successfully increase its annual production of honey and is now the third largest honey producer in the world, Gerold Bödeker, FAO Representative to the Islamic Republic of Iran has said.
