Taleqan Dam to be inaugurated in May

TEHRAN (PIN) – Taleqan dam will be officially inaugurated in the second half of the Iranian month of Ordibehesht (late May).

Jalal Karagah told Petroenergy Information Network that the plan aims at supplying part of drinking water needed for Iran.

He stated that the dam’s reservoir can hold 420 million cu. m. water of which 150 million cu. m. will be supplied as potable water to Tehran and the rest will be used for agricultural purposes in Qazvin plain.

The official stated that 85 percent of the plan’s credits will be supplied through finance and 15 percent will be supplied through domestic sources and general revenues.

“Taleqan dam is an earthen dam with reservoir capacity of 420 million cu. m., and useful capacity of more than 320 million cu. m. It is 103 m high and its lake will be 13 km long,” he said.

Karagah stated that building the dam started in January 2002 and will be finished in May 2006.
