Two Iranian films on the bill at Umea film festival
“Slowly” is about a train station worker named Mahmud who receives a telephone call informing him that his wife Pari has left him. All the evidence indicates that she has been disloyal to him, but Mahmud tries to discover the truth himself.
The movie has been screened at several other international film festivals. At this year’s Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran, it received the best film award in the international section, the best actor award, which went to Mohammadreza Forutan, and a diploma of honor for screenwriter Parviz Shahbazi.
“Early in the Morning” also received the Special Jury Prize at the 23rd Annonay International Film Festival in France and was honored with an award at the 2006 Fribourg Film Festival in Switzerland.
Inspired by a true story, the film is about a criminal sentenced to death who is anxiously awaiting the next morning, when he will be either executed or pardoned.
The movie stars Hossein Yari, Atash Taqipur, Maryam Amir-Jalali, Hoda Naseh, and Asghar Bichareh.
The Umea festival began on September 14 and runs until September 20.
