Clerical association may back no candidate

Gholam-Reza Mesbahi-Moghaddam said here on Monday that Steering Council of the Society of Combatant Clerics (SCC) may decide not to support any candidate in the presidential election. The SCC just calls for a massive turnout in the election, he told the Mehr News Agency. He said the SCC can not presently declare its final decision; however, he said as the election approaches it may examine the situation change its stance.
---------------------- Construction party will provide facilities for MousaviHossein Marashi said on Monday that the Servants of Construction Party will provide facilities for Mir Hossien Mousavi for his presidential campaign all over the country.
“The Servants of Construction Party will put all its facilities on Mousavi’s disposal,” the party spokesman said.
He also said the majority of reformist groups support Mousavi and he can be the “national unity” candidate, he told MNA. He added that a massive turnout is very important for the SCP and its allies.
---------------------- Devotees society backs Ahmadinejad
The Islamic Revolution Devotees Society has decided to support the incumbent President Ahmadinejad in the presidential race.
In a meeting on Saturday the members of the society’s central council announced support for Ahmadinejad. The members also declared that opinion polls indicate Ahmadinejad enjoys more support among people.
---------------------- Mehralizadeh backs Mousavi
Mohsen Mehralizadeh, a former aide to Mohammad Khatami, announced support for Mousavi in the election. Mehralizadeh and his former campaign directors went to Mousavi’s office on Sunday to announce their support for him.
Mehralizadeh ran for presidency in the 2005 election; he was the former head of Iran’s Physical Education Organization (PEO) in the Khatami administration.
------ Mousavi to begin campaign tour of Khorasan Razavi province
Hossein Amini, Mousavi’s campaign director in Khorasan Razavi province, said on Monday that Mousavi will begin his campaign tour of the province on Thursday. Mousavi will elaborate on his policies in meetings with with people and students, Amini told MNA.
Presidential hopeful Karroubi also will start his campaign tour to Markazi province on Tuesday.
------------------ More than 46 millions are eligible to vote
More than 46 million people are eligible to vote in June 12 elections, the Interior Ministry election chief announced on Monday.
The accurate number of the eligible voters is 46,199,997, the Fars News Agency reported. The minimum age for voting is 18.
--------------- Alami appoints campaign directors
Presidential hopeful Akbar Alami has appointed some of his campaign directors. He will appoint his other campaign directors in the coming days. Alami, a former reformist MP, announced his bid for presidency on March 2.
------------------------ Former lawmakers to meet Khatami
Yadollah Eslami, the secretary general of the Former Lawmakers Association, stated on Monday that the group members will meet the former president on Friday. The meeting will focus on the presidential election, he told the FNA.
-------------------- Mousavi says Constitution is key to remove hurdles
Presidential hopeful Mousavi stated on Monday that the Constitution has a great capacity for resolving the country’s problems, but the problem is that the Constitution is not fully observed in the country.
Talking among a group of teachers in Tehran, Mousavi called the Constitution the “greatest asset” of country and said if there is a problems with a law it can be amended.
----------------- Presidential campaign committee starts work
The committee for examining the presidential campaigns has begun its work.
Naser Seraj from the office of the prosecutor-general stated on Monday that the committee members are the interior minister, the prosecutor-general and the chief of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) or a plenipotentiary representative of them.
