Iranian police officers have killed ten PJAK militants in fresh clashes in Ravansar town, in western Iran, reports deputy Kermanshah governor.
Fighting erupted late Friday night after terrorist PJAK forces attacked a police station in the town of Ravansar, situated in the northern part of Kermanshah, said Political and Security Deputy of Kermanshah the Governor Office, Hojatollah Damyad.“The clashes led to the killing of ten militants and the injury of several others. A number of local police officers were killed in the incident as well,” Damyad added.
The separatist terrorist group is an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). The PKK is an armed-separatist group -- recognized by much of the international community as a terrorist group -- that carries out attacks and deadly bombings against Turkey, Iran, and Syria from its bases in the mountainous regions of northern Iraq.
The PJAK terrorist group is organized and financially supported by the United States and western governments, the Kermanshah Deputy Governor noted.
The western region of Iran has been witnessing a series of deadly clashes in recent years between the Iranian security forces and the rebel Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK).
Rahman Haji-Ahmadi is the ringleader of the PJAK who has spread the activity of the group to Kurdistan, Kermanshah and Ilam provinces.
