Fajr festival secretary appoints actress Mahtab Keramati as artistic advisor
TEHRAN – The secretary of the 34th Fajr National Film Festival, Mohammad Heidari, has selected actress Mahtab Keramati as artistic advisor.Keramati has received awards at international events, including the 8th Batumi International Art-House Film Festival (BIAFF) for her role in Vahid Musaian’s “The Fourth Child”.
“Track 143” wins Volokolamsky jury special prize
TEHRAN – Iranian director Narges Abyar’s acclaimed drama “Track 143” has won the jury special prize at the Volokolamsky Film Festival, which was held in the Russian city from November 14 to 18.
The movie tells the story of Olfat, a middle-aged woman who is waiting for the return of her missing-in-action son.
Based on a book with the same title by Abyar, “Track 143” revolves around a great maternal sacrifice during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.
“I Am Diego Maradona” competing in Spanish festival
TEHRAN – Iranian filmmaker Bahram Tavakkoli’s “I Am Diego Maradona” is vying for awards at the 53rd Gijon International Film Festival, which is currently underway in the Spanish city.
The social drama starring Golab Adineh and Hooman Seyyedi unfolds the fundamental problems of two married sisters who come from diverse social levels.
The festival will come to an end on November 28.
“Where the Moon Isn’t” appears in Iranian bookstores
TEHRAN – British author Nathan Filer’s bestselling debut novel “Where the Moon Isn’t” has recently been published in Persian by Noon Publications.
The book, translated into Persian by Mohammad Hekmat, has won several major awards including the 2013 Costa Book of the Year.
It is about Matthew Homes and his older brother, who snuck out in the middle of the night while on vacation and then only Matthew came home safely. Ten years later, Matthew tells readers, he has found a way to bring his brother back.
Tehran seminar to review role of women in Arabic literature
TEHRAN – A number Arabic scholars and Arabic/Persian translators are scheduled to review the status and the role of women in Arabic literature in during a two-day seminar, which will held at the University of Tehran on November 23 and 24.
Experts Shahriar Niazi, Yadollah Malayeri, Somayeh Aqajani, Nahad Bazgir, Babak Shaker and Arash Afshar are slated to deliver speeches during the colloquium.
