TEHRAN -- Qajar-era lithographs have inspired cartoonist Kambiz Derambakhsh to create a collection of paintings, which will be showcased in an exhibition at Tehran’s Seyhun Gallery on December 18.
The collection entitled “Don’t Be Tired” contains 17 works, Derambaksh told the Persian service of ISNA on Tuesday.“I have long been studying the lithographs of the Qajar era and I have made use of them in this collection,” he said.
“My works are not lithographs but convey the feeling of a lithograph, and I have actually updated the old artworks,” he added.
“The paintings should be interesting for visitors due to their specific topics. I can say these are my best works and I plan to increase the collection to 100 and later publish them in a book,” he stated.
The exhibit will be running until January 6 at Seyhun Gallery 2 located at 24, Simai Alley, Keyhan Alley, Moqaddas Ardebili St.
According to Derambakhsh, a selection of his works created over the past 50 years will be showcased at Shirin Gallery in New York during a retrospective, which opens today.
Different types of works including miniatures, graphic designs, comic strips and cartoons will be shown for three weeks at Shirin Gallery.
