National library opens Museum of Books and Documentary Heritage of Iran

TEHRAN – The National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) has established a new museum, which opened on Saturday, to preserve books and documented heritage of Iran.

Entitled “Museum of Books and Documentary Heritage of Iran”, the museum is home to large number of rare historical documents and images, the NLAI announced in a press release on Saturday.

Copies of rare manuscripts of Islamic era including copies of Holy Quran, Nahj-ul-Balagha of Imam Ali (AS), Ferdowsi’s epic masterpiece Shahnameh, and periodicals published in the Qajar and Pahlavi eras are also on display in the exhibit.

In addition, an exhibition featuring 420,000 photos taken of Iran’s cultural heritage, nature, environment, costumes, careers and rituals opened on the sidelines.

The photos were taken over the past four decades by a team of professional photographers.

NLAI Director Seyyed Reza Salehi-Amiri and Iran’s First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri attended the opening ceremony.
