TEHRAN – An Iranian orchestra conducted by Abbas Latifi will be performing several compositions by the very popular contemporary Greek composer Yanni on November 22 at Milad Hall of the Tehran Permanent Fairground.

The orchestra comprised of 50 musicians from Tehran Symphony Orchestra and Iran's National Orchestra will be giving the performance for one night, Latifi told the Persian service of ISNA on Friday.

"The music by Yanni is popular in Iran, since some of his compositions are aired on radio or Iranian state TV channels occasionally," Latifi added.

Yanni is known throughout the world as one of the most original and successful composers and musicians. His powerful compositions have come to define a new genre of music and over 500 million people in over 140 countries have seen and listened to his live performances.

"We are having a difficult night ahead of us since the orchestra is going to be compared with the original performance," he said, adding that he will be playing the piano at the concert while conducting the group.

He expressed hope that people support these types of music, lamenting the fact that music is being forgotten these days and people are more familiar with the singers than the music itself.
