TEHRAN -- First Vice President Mohammadreza Rahimi unveiled a 95,000 part mosaic-intarsia religious artwork during a ceremony on the sidelines of the international exhibition of handicrafts on Saturday.

The second edition of international exhibition of handicrafts, arranged on the occasion of World Handicrafts Day (June 10), is currently underway at the Tehran Permanent International Fairgrounds.

The mosaic-intarsia artwork depicts Karbala’s Bain ul Haramain, the area between the holy shrines of Imam Hussein (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS), embellished with the Prayers for Ashura as well as the names of Ashura’s martyrs.

Ashura, the tenth of the month of Muharram, is the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), his family and his followers.

The Arya-Negar Artistic group headed by Majid Meybodi from Neyshabur did the artwork in two years. About 110 types of wood from trees in Iran and abroad are used in it.

Rahimi also honored selected Iranian handicraft artists who are active in different fields including intarsia, pottery, needlework and teahouse painting during the ceremony.

Javad Darvishzadeh, Ahmad Zamanzadehfard, Zahra Mohseni, Ebrahim Zakaria, Seddiqeh Moridi, Yahya Shah-Nazari, Saeid Zunnuri and Ali Ghaffari were among the honorees.

Artworks in 210 different fields of handicraft artworks are going on display in eight halls of the fairground during the exhibition which runs until June 12.

Artists from Syria, Turkey, China, Armenia and Thailand are among the 850 participants of the event.
