TEHRAN – South Korean actress Lee Young-ae has donated 50,000,000 Korean won (about $45,000) to earthquake relief efforts in Iran, where she is hugely popular.

The donation was made via check handed over to Iranian Ambassador Hassan Taherian in Seoul by Korea Foundation for Persons with Disabilities Chairman Lee Seong-gyu, the Embassy of Iran in Seoul announced on Monday.

Lee Young-ae is known for her appearances in the Korean historical drama “Dae Jang Geum” (2003), which was also aired on Iranian television.

The massive earthquake in the Kermanshah region in western Iran killed hundreds and injured thousands last week.
