TEHRAN – Tehran’s Mojdeh Gallery is hanging photos by U.S.-based Iranian photographer Ali Shokri in an exhibition named “The Passion of Trees”.

The collection has also been put into a book published in 2017 by Matador, part of Troubador, an independent UK publisher.

“The Passion of Trees” is a collection of photographs taken in Iran over the past 13 years by Shokri of leafless trees.

Shokri regards trees as the symbol of life in his homeland Iran and believes that the pain and sorrow felt by the people are the consequences they pay for the destruction of nature and the trees.

“To me, each tree, like a human being, has a tale to tell. When a tree dies, a whole story is interrupted, a destiny is altered for the worse. I feel as if the trees, bundled in the back of trucks, are cursing us with their broken hands, wounded faces and severed roots,” the photographer has said in his earlier comments.

The exhibit will be running until Friday at the gallery located at No. 27, 18th Alley off North Allameh Blvd. in the Saadatabad neighborhood.
