TEHRAN - The Iranian Red Crescent Society and Iran Clinic Ghana have contributed to launching a healthcare center in Ghana to provide affordable and accessible healthcare services to vulnerable individuals in the capital Accra.

The center provides essential medical care, health education, and support services to over 20,000 residents within the inner-cities of the Zongo communities across the country.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Iran Clinic Ghana medical director, Saeid Salahatpour; and Iran’s Ambassador to Ghana, Bijan Gerami Nazoksara.

A screening exercise was organized to mark the launch of the program, during which people were screened for various ailments, including malaria, sugar levels, blood pressure, eye malaria, hepatitis B, and cholesterol, while those identified with complications were referred for further diagnoses and care.

The ambassador, Gerami, said Iran was committed to contributing to the progress and success of the country and reaffirmed the launch as Iran’s dedication to supporting the development of the Zongo communities in Ghana.

“We have provided initiatives such as providing scholarships to Ghanaian students and the presence of the Iran Clinic in Ghana, witness to Iran's serious commitment to obtain growth and well-being in these communities,” he said.

Health attachés

Iran is planning to send special envoys as health attachés to certain countries in Africa and Latin America.

“We have negotiated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the appointment of health attachés in the embassies of some countries with whom we cooperate in the fields of medicine, medical equipment, science and technology, and exchange of professors and students,” Health Minister Bahram Einollahi said on July 16.

“Health attachés are appointed in six countries in the first phase, including South American and African countries. We are also following up on dispatching health attachés in neighboring countries,” IRNA quoted Einollahi as saying.
