Afghanistan needs to take practical steps to address issues with Iran: FM

TEHRAN- Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the Foreign Minister of Iran, says Afghanistan has to take practical steps to address the current issues, such as water sharing and border security, between the two nations.

Amir Abdollahian made the remarks in a meeting with Taliban’s caretaker foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, in Tehran on Sunday.

He pointed out that Tehran and Kabul have established significant ties in a number of areas and expressed hope that the acting Taliban government in Afghanistan would work with Tehran to find practical solutions to some of its current issues.

The senior Iranian diplomat also pointed to a recent meeting in Tehran in favor of Palestine and praised the Afghan delegation, led by Muttaqi, for its active involvement in the gathering.

He also discussed developments in the besieged Gaza Strip and encouraged all Muslim and freedom-seeking countries to assist the Palestinian people in the face of the genocidal atrocities being committed by the occupying Israeli regime. 

For his part, the acting foreign minister of the Taliban applauded Iran’s decision to host the Palestine conference in Tehran at a time when the UN Security Council and other international bodies as well as nations continue to act passively in the face of Israel’s war crimes in Gaza.

Muttaqi praised Iran’s ethical position toward the oppressed Palestinian people and emphasized the significance of increasing support for the resistance front and Palestinians fighting the Zionist regime.

He also advocated improving relations with Tehran in a variety of areas, including water, border security, trade, and judicial and consular cooperation.

Iran seeks complete implementation of security deal with Iraq

Amir Abdollahian also held a meeting in Tehran on Sunday with Iraq’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, who had visited Tehran to attend the conference on Palestine in Tehran.

At the meeting, Iran’s foreign minister called for the full implementation of all the terms of the security agreement with Iraq.

Amir Abdollahian also praised the two nations’ relations, calling them an exemplary model in the region.

He also praised the security pact between Iran and Iraq even more and emphasized the importance of following all of its stipulations.

He also emphasized the ongoing exchange of reciprocal visits and high-level discussions between the two countries, stating that the breadth of friendly relations is demonstrated by the numerous cooperation agreements in various fields.

Appreciating Iraq’s critical role in fostering security in the region, Amir Abdollahian emphasized the need to support diplomatic and international efforts to confront the crimes committed in Gaza by the Zionist regime. 

The deputy foreign minister of Iraq, for his part, denounced the 75-year occupation of Palestine by the Zionist regime.

The Iraqi envoy called on the Islamic community to unite in favor of Palestine, expressing support for Palestinian unity.

Iran FM seeks to put Iran-Nicaragua deals into action

In the meeting with Nicaragua Minister of Foreign Affairs Denis Moncada on Sunday evening, Amir Abdollahian also highlighted the developing trend of ties with Managua, particularly the agreements signed during the Iranian president’s visit to Nicaragua. The chief diplomat expressed optimism that these accords would be implemented as soon as possible.

Denis Moncada also visited the conference on Palestine in Tehran.

The primary objective of the Palestine meeting is to establish an international mechanism to assist the Palestinian people, and Amir Abdollahian expressed gratitude for his active participation in the conference and the announcement of the government of Nicaragua’s valuable and principled positions.

The foreign minister of Nicaragua also said that from Nicaragua’s perspective, Palestine represents humanity, dignity, and honor. 

What was clear from this conference was that, in spite of cultural and ideological differences, all of the participating nations agreed on the cause of Palestine.

Denis Moncada underlined the necessity of adhering to joint cooperation as well as the government of Nicaragua’s desire to broaden ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran FM praises SCO chief views on Palestine

In a Sunday meeting with the Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Amir Abdollahian also praised positive and constructive positions on the events in Palestine, saying these approaches send a good message to the region and indicate the organization’s focus on security, peace, and stability in the West Asia region.

He also stressed the significance of expanding Iran’s economic and commercial ties at the meeting.

He highlighted the initiative put forth by the first vice president of Iran at the Bishkek meeting on economic and industrial cooperation, encompassing investment, transit, transportation, and the environment, and asked the Secretary General of the organization for support and follow-up in putting it into action.

Additionally, during the meeting, the SCO chief expressed gratitude to Amir Abdollahian for the successful arrangement of the Palestine conference and Iran’s principled stance toward the Palestinian people. 

The secretary general also conveyed the SCO position on the Palestine issue from the standpoint of the organization’s importance to West Asia’s security.
