BUSHEHR -- The recently-conducted Courage 79' military maneuvers demonstrated that Iran is in a state of full alert against probable threats from enemies, spokesman of the war games Captain Ali Razmjou said here in southern Iran Sunday.
He said, "The Basij (volunteer) Forces turned out massively in the exercises." He said that the maneuvers also demonstrated that the country's military equipment and rocket-launching sites are ready for the exercise.
To mark the outbreak of the eight-year battle with Iraq, the Iranian Navy held five-day maneuvers in the Persian Gulf during the "Sacred Defense Week" September 21-28.
The Basij Forces joined the exercises with their own maneuvers in a border province with Iraq.
The naval war games featured divers, commandos and hundreds of troops at sea, and included exercises in the logistics of rocket-launching and defense of Iran's maritime borders.
Razmjou further said that the experience gained during the 1980-1988 war encouraged Iran's Naval Forces to equip themselves with the necessary military equipment.
Earlier, the Defense Ministry said that Iran owes improvements in its defensive capabilities to the experience it gained during the Iraqi-imposed war.
