‘Imported recipes’ for Iran are ‘doomed to fail:’ government

TEHRAN – Government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said on Saturday that foreign intervention and “imported recipes” for Iran’s domestic political landscape are “doomed to fail.”

In an interview with the Mehr news agency, she pointed to recent developments in Venezuela as an example of how “foreign powers, including the U.S., make their decision merely based on transient interests.”

“Venezuela’s case has a clear message for groups that believe changing a country’s domestic landscape is possible with foreign pressure,” the spokeswoman said.

After the U.S. military’s aggression and illegal abduction of Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro, President Donald Trump sidelined opposition figure Maria Corina Machado despite expectations that Washinton would install her as the new president in Caracas.

Mohajerani’s comments reflect a growing concern within the Iranian government about the intervention of foreign actors, particularly the United States and the Israeli regime, on Iran’s domestic political landscape.

In recent days, protests and public gatherings have been held in several Iranian cities across the country, primarily in response to economic challenges and market instability.

Taking advantage of the situation, several groups of rioters whom Iranian officials say are foreign-backed, have started to engage in acts of “terrorism” and “sabotage” in certain cities across the country.
