Veteran film critic Parviz Nouri passes away
TEHRAN- Parviz Nouri, a veteran Iranian film critic, screenwriter, and director, passed away in San Francisco on Tuesday due to throat cancer. He was 87.
Nouri was one of the prominent critics in Iranian cinema, beginning his career in the 1950s. He contributed critiques for various publications, including "Film Critique," "Today's Film," and "Shahrvand Emrooz Weekly," where he reviewed Iranian films.
In addition to his critical work, Nouri had a penchant for filmmaking, directing notable works such as "Hakimbashi," " Dawn of Explosion," and others. He also appeared in the first episode of the film "Tehran, Tehran," directed by the late Dariush Mehrjui.
Beyond directing and screenwriting, Nouri was an influential translator and expert in the field of cinema. His translations include significant works such as "Japanese Cinema," "Principles of Film Editing," and "The Man Who Knew Too Much."
