TEHRAN President Mohammad Khatami has been authorized to hold a reelection campaign rally after he was banned by the Judiciary, his office said Sunday.

"Following relentless efforts late last night, the Head of Tehran's Justice Department Abbas-Ali Alizadeh contacted me and said since Shiroudi Stadium is rented for the gathering the ban has been lifted," the Head of the Presidential Office Mohammad-Ali Abtahi said.

The Judiciary's previous ruling on banning the rally was due to a ban on the use of government property for campaigning by the 10 candidates running for the June 8 presidential election.

Also, Public Relations Department at Tehran's Justice Administration said in a statement on Sunday that there was no ban on President Khatami's reelection campaign gathering at Martyr Shiroudi Stadium in Tehran on Monday.

The statement said after receiving some reports from the Intelligence Department of Tehran's police that President Khatami was to hold a gathering, the case was referred to the Bench 20 of the Special Court dealing with elections violations.
