Iran Wins Fajr Intl. Judo Cup Crown
On the last day of the contests, which were held in Shahid Afrassiabi gym, Tehran, the Iranian team added three gold, four silver, and three bronze medals to its asset.
In addition to 6 teams from the host country, Iran, the teams of Armenia, Yemen, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, South Korea, Syria, Republic of Azerbaijan, Singapore, and Tajikistan took part in the two-day competitions, IRNA reported.
In the 60kg category, a number of 17 judokas participated and the final was an all-Iranian fight between Mohsen Ghaffar from Persepolis and his fellow countryman Vahid Sarlak from Paas. Ghaffar managed to defeat Sarlak and hung the gold medal.
In 73kg, 17 athletes competed and the South Korean judoka Kim Joo-hong and Hamed Malek-Mohammadi of Iranian team of Paas fought in the final which was won by the Korean sportsman and Malek-Mohammadi finished second.
A number of nine 100kg martial art champions fought on tatami and the two Iranian judokas, Abbas Falah from Paas and Hossein Qomi from Islamic Azad University, competed in the final during which Falah overcame his fellow countryman and grabbed the gold.
In +100kg, eight athletes competed and the captain of Iran's national judo team, Seyed Mahmoudreza Miran of Paas, and Saeid Khosravi-Nejad from Ilam Province beating their rivals in the semis held a home final. Miran beat his rival in a warm-up fight.
