DALLAS -- The Dallas Mavericks signed Raef Lafrentz to a lucrative new contract on Tuesday which reports said was worth more than $60 million over seven years.
Lafrentz, acquired from Denver in February with guard Nick van Exel, averaged just 10.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in 27 games for the Mavericks.
But the 6-11 forward-center showed promising versatility, becoming just the third player in NBA history to make 100 three-pointers and block 100 shots in the same season, Reuters reported.
"The future's very bright and it's a great team to be on," said the 26-year-old Lafrentz, a four-year NBA veteran.
"When you've got a guy who can shoot the three, post up, block shots and run the floor, that's something to like," said Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but the Dallas morning news said the deal was worth $60 million over seven years.
